That's a good shout with the clean urls (aesthetically quite important for an seo site too).
htaccess and mod rewrite will probably let you do this with some mod rewrite rules.
ya, we have had a problem with our server and getting them to work. I'm sure we'll get them working soon. We have just been working on a few other things.
